Leaf Sampling & Foliar Sprays
Meeting on Friday, March 19, 1999(Summary)

TOPIC: Discussion of previous year results and scheduling for 1999 season with PHOSYN (soil & plant nutrition specialists) and Morse Growers Supplies.

An increasing number of grape growers have begun to follow the Phosyn program for grapes over the last several years. It involves 3 leaf samples per season: the first three weeks prior to bloom, the second at bloom and the third at veraison.

The leaf samples are collected at Morse Growers and then sent to A&L Labatories. Critical levels of Macro and Micro Nutrients are checked and the results are returned to the growers. The found data is interpreted and a suggestion of foliar sprays is made.

The cost of the analysis was shared at 50/50 between grower and Phosyn up to 1998. For 1999 Phosyn will contribute $11 per sample.
Some farmers followed the recommendations and some didn't, however, with the sampling we can get a very detailed look at the nutritional level of the grapes at very crucial times.
Through worldwide research on grapes Phosyn feels confident and competent to assist grape growers in producing healthy and high quality grapes. There is also a program going on in Niagara.
